Research and Community

Understanding clients and users’ needs offers ever more value to project outcomes. We offer specialist services that build designs through participatory processes and we offer comprehensive post project analysis to evaluate the value we add. To deliver engaging and meaningful research we have developed LearnSpace – a dedicated facility that allows clients to sample prototype spaces fitted out to their requirements.

Research

Creating economic value from intellectual property requires a value chain that links intellectual assets all the way from R&D to a final product or service in the hands of a customer.

A concept is created in the research phase. Product definition and design occur in the development phase. Manufacturing, product delivery (by a sales force, for example), and customer support (including a service force) are separate but vital steps in the value chain. Studies comparing successful with unsuccessful product-development efforts reveal that each and every step in the value chain must be done adequately. Failure to execute a single step acceptably creates an unsuccessful product. Doing a step exceptionally well, however, costs more and takes longer. Thus, the key to successful product development is doing each step just well enough to meet customer requirements.

Social Responsibility

Social enterprises often break with conventional business models to find new and more sustainable ways of improving the world around them. Wherever there’s a social or environmental need, social enterprises are working on solutions.

Through Education for All, LearnSpace and Bring IT Home, we at Kilworth Studio involve ourselves with our clients and their objectives in a not for profit way. We find this is personally rewarding but also it builds our understanding of the issues and the obstacles in peoples way. Through a diverse interaction with users and stakeholders we find opportunities for innovation and alternative responses to solving problems.

Engagement

Every individual has their own interests, preferences and opinions. Bringing people together to make collective decisions is highly valuable but also highly challenging.

Our process of engagement sets out to draw each individual and stakeholder into the realm of spatial and product solutions. We do this through creative processes that excite all those involved and encourage all involved to make a contribution. Our LearnSpace facility allows client groups to gather and make collective decisions about, space settings, technologies and furniture requirements in a tangible way – not just on a piece of paper.
